Termite Threat

The Threat of Termites

Causing over five billion dollars per year in structural damage, termites are one of the biggest threats to any home. Left unchecked, they can cause the complete collapse of a building and financial ruin for its owners.

Types of termites in the US:

Dampwood Termites
You'll find these in thickly forested areas because they like wet wood. Generally speaking, dampwood termites will not infest a structure because the framing has such a low moisture content.
Drywood Termites
These are rare in the US and prefer extremely dry wood, like the framing in the attics of homes. With colony sizes up to 2500 members, they can cause significant damage.
Formosan Termites
The most destructive species of termite known to science! They need moist environments, so they live in the soil. Once these termites have infested a structure, they're tough to address, so prevention is the key.
Subterranean Termites
Subterranean termites build large colonies underground, which are composed of elaborate tunnels and chambers. Worker termites then construct protective tunnels made of mud and saliva in order to reach above ground wood. f mud tunnels are visible on the walls or foundation of your home, it is highly likely that you have an infestation.
